Yes, A Mediterranean Diet is Good For You

Mediterranean fruits and vegetables (Photo: Gerry Hadden)

Mediterranean fruits and vegetables are usually cheap - along the Mediterranean. Even if some 'Mediterranean Cuisine' restaurants in the US charge and arm and a leg for the same stuff. (Photo: Gerry Hadden)

News of a new study showing that a “Mediterranean diet” is good for your health isn’t really news for people in Spain.

We agree strongly with Mr. Hadden.  After all, the Mediterranean diet has long been a model of a sensible diet.  Olive oil
has been part of that diet for millenia. An ancient food that in synergy with exercise,
other nutrient rich foods, non-smoking, and weight control seems to have a
significant cardioprotective effect.  At the tasting room at IL Fiorello
there are often long discussions of the health benefits associated with olive
oil. Many people believe that taking 2 tablespoons of olive oil daily without
the overall dietary and exercise change will cure them of many diseases. There
is no doubt about the health benefits of certified extra virgin olive oil but
    not by itself.

    Enjoy the
positive effects of the Mediterranean diet with real olive oil, exercise, not
smoking and you will definitively greatly benefit. As we say at IL Fiorello,
“olive oil is an ancient food that deserves a place at the modern table.”®
