Oumou Sangare, Malian Musician and Auto Executive

Oumou Sangare must be the only pop star in the world to have a car named after her.

It’s a sedan called the Oum Sang, available only in Mali.

The the car’s slogan is “The African Diva of the Road.”

Sangare says the car business has been pretty good but not great.

Malians don’t have a lot of money for cars, especially now that the country is in turmoil.

And by Malian standards, these are luxury cars. Still, she’s managed to lease a fleet of Oumsangs to a taxi company.

I asked her how it feels to see people driving around Bamako in a car with her name on it?

She laughed and said “proud.”
