In 1956 Franco offered 500 Spanish passports to Egyptian Jews who could prove they were Sephardic. This was at a time that Jews were being expelled from Egypt in the same way they had been expelled from Spain 500 years before. It’s a symbolic gesture of goodwill which I appreciate.
