Monday was an historic day for the people of Cambodia. Opening statements in the war crimes trial against three former leaders of the notorious Khmer Rouge regime, began in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh.
Reporter Irwin Loy reports on the dividing line in a flooded part of Thailand’s capital, Bangkok. In one neighborhood, houses on one side of the street have been flooded for weeks, but houses on the other side were not, until angry residents knocked down the barrier holding back the flood waters.
Some of those stranded in Thailand’s calamitous floods are family pets. A group of volunteers has been heading into flooded Bangkok neighborhoods, rescuing frantic cats and dogs.
Thailand’s government says the worst of the flooding there is over. But people who live in submerged parts of Bangkok say they don’t trust the government’s pronouncements.
