Iranian scholar Haleh Esfandiari has been based in the US since 1979. Two years ago she endured four months of solitary confinement in Iran’s notorious Evin prison. She had been in Tehran to visit her elderly mother when authorities began to interrogate her about her work at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. Jeb Sharp spoke with Esfandiari.
