Pulitzer prize-winning author Tracy Kidder (left) stopped by The World studios this morning for an interview with Anchor Jeb Sharp. Kidder talked about his new book, entitled Strength in What Remains. The book tells the story of Deo, a survivor of the decades long civil war that ripped apart the central African nation of Burundi. Fresh violence has erupted in the Afghan capital, Kabul, on the eve of the country’s presidential election. Explosions in Baghdad

Baghdad was pummeled by five explosions today in the deadliest violence since US troops withdrew from the city on June 30th. The targets were mainly government buildings. Anchor Lisa Mullins speaks with Washington Post reporter, Ernesto Londono.

Kenyan graffiti artist Solo 7

Artist Solomon Muyundo, also known as Solo 7, lives in Kibera, which is part of the Kenyan capital Nairobi. Kibera happens to be Africa’s largest slum. In early 2008, Muyundo, like many in Kenya, took to the streets during Kenya’s post-election violence. In protest of the widespread looting and killings, he painted slogans of peace in almost every corner of Kibera. >>>Click here to see a large version of the collage.
