Aviation experts have warned that a cloud of volcanic ash from Iceland, drifting across Europe, will continue to cause disruption well into the weekend. The European air traffic agency said that about sixty percent of European flights had been canceled on Friday, together with half of all transatlantic flights. A volcano in Iceland features in our Geo Quiz. It’s near a glacier and has been erupting for a few days now. Some nearby residents have been evacuated. But so far, the volcano’s spectacular displays of smoke and lava have mostly been a boon for tourism. Scientists in the Philippines have raised the alert level for the volatile volcano Mount Mayon, amid fears of an imminent eruption. The cone-shaped volcano has already been emitting lava and ash for days. About 40,000 people who live near Mount Mayon have been moved to temporary shelters.
