Lisa Mullins

Former Anchor, Senior Producer

Lisa Mullins is an internationally recognized news anchor, reporter, and producer. She was chief anchor of the BBC/PRI/WGBH daily news magazine, “The World,” from 1998 to 2012. She conducted thousands of interviews from the studio in Boston and in the field. She reported from Cuba, Morocco, Turkey, Egypt, Northern Ireland, Portugal, South Korea, North Korea, and cities across the U.S. In 1997, she anchored the program from Hong Kong as the territory was handed back to China.

Mullins’s TV experience includes anchoring the five-part WGBH/PBS program “Thinking Big,” which spotlighted her in-depth interviews with leading thinkers in science and technology.

Before anchoring “The World,” Mullins produced documentaries on the links between diet and disease for Human Media. Prior to that, she anchored “Morning Edition” at WBUR in Boston and frequently reported stories for local and NPR news programs.

In 2012, Mullins received a national Gracie Award as outstanding anchor from the Alliance for Women in Media. In 2009, she won a Clarion Award for best radio feature from Women in Communications for her story about her 24 hours at a tourist resort in North Korea.

Also in 2009, Mullins was named a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, where she studied diplomacy, religion, and the arts. In 2010, she received a fellowship in Cambridge, England with the Templeton-Cambridge Journalism Programme in Science and Religion.

Mullins received an Honorary Doctorate in Journalism in 2005 from Simmons College, her alma mater, and delivered the keynote address at the school’s 100th commencement.
