Web Technical Editor
Manya Gupta joined The World as the Web Technical Editor in 2010. In this role she is responsible for the determining the audience, outreach, design and content quality of theworld.org. She is also actively involved in creating data-visualizations and produce innovative data-journalism projects as independent reporting pieces or as collaborative web features for the broadcast stories.
Manya has a unique blend of technical and journalistic skills. After pursuing her Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering in India, she worked in the telecommunications industry for more than four years, developing software for routers and switches.
She then came to the US to pursue a Master’s degree in Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University on a full tuition scholarship awarded by the prestigious Knight Foundation. During her one year program at Medill, she pursued the interactive journalism track and was part of the coveted News21 fellowship program that took place in the summer of 2010.
Her work at Medill and at News21 has been a blend of digital and investigative journalism. With her deep technical skills and sound journalism training, she has been able to implement some very interesting interactive and visual journalistic pieces.
