Social Media Producer
Tory Starr joined The World newsroom in September 2012 as the program’s first social media producer. She is responsible for program’s social properties, with a focus on global health and global development beats as well as feature reporting on immigrant life in the US.
Tory has led efforts at WGBH to navigate the quickly-changing world of social media and has pioneered the integration of new social platforms into The World’s daily journalism online.
Tory previously worked as the digital producer for WNYC radio program The Takeaway and on the web team for the PBS history series American Experience. She has also worked as a location manager for the HBO film “Strangers No More,” which went on to win the 2011 Oscar for Best Documentary Short. 2011 was also the year Tory found out they don’t give out Oscar statues to location managers.
Tory holds a BA in English and Classical Civilization from Colby College and is pursuing her Masters in Journalism at Northeastern University in Boston. For more information about Tory, visit her website or follow her at @torystarr3.
